This project involved the creation of a promotional poster and a publication advertisement for Meditech Staffing in collaboration with the Australian Government Department of Health. The purpose of these materials was to promote the National Public Toilet Map, a government initiative designed to help individuals, particularly those with disabilities, locate public and accessible toilets across Australia.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness about this valuable resource, encouraging people to visit the website or download the app to plan their journeys with confidence. The materials needed to be eye-catching, informative, and accessible to a diverse audience while maintaining a professional and engaging visual style.
The key objective was to create materials that would effectively communicate the benefits of the National Public Toilet Map while ensuring maximum visibility and impact. The poster needed to be bold and visually striking to capture attention in public spaces, while the publication advert required a concise yet informative layout suitable for print media.
Both designs had to emphasise accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that individuals with disabilities felt represented. The choice of colours, fonts, and imagery was crucial in making the materials readable and engaging. The campaign also needed to align with the branding of both Meditech Staffing and the Australian Government Department of Health to establish credibility and trust.
Creating a Strong Visual Impact
A major challenge was ensuring that the poster and advert immediately grabbed attention. Since posters are often displayed in high-traffic areas and print ads compete for attention in publications, the design had to be visually compelling while keeping the message clear and concise.
To achieve this, the headline “KNOW WHERE TO GO?” was chosen as a bold, engaging question that immediately sparks curiosity. The use of high-contrast yellow text on a dark background ensures that the message stands out, making it easy to read from a distance.
Representing an Inclusive Audience
Another challenge was making sure the materials felt inclusive and relevant to the people who would benefit most from the National Public Toilet Map. Rather than using generic stock photos, the design incorporates a collage of real-life images within the shape of Australia, reinforcing the idea of nationwide accessibility.
The imagery was carefully selected to include diverse individuals with disabilities, showing them in various environments such as urban areas, nature trails, and recreational settings. This approach ensures that the poster and advert resonate with a broad audience and effectively communicate the importance of accessible facilities.
Ensuring Readability & Accessibility
Since the materials needed to be accessible to individuals with visual impairments, the choice of typography and colour contrast was essential. A clean, modern font was selected to enhance legibility, while the dark background with bright text ensured readability across different formats, whether printed or displayed digitally.
Encouraging Immediate Action
The final challenge was driving engagement by encouraging people to use the National Public Toilet Map. The materials needed a clear and direct call to action without cluttering the design with too much text.
To achieve this, the website URL and app download options were prominently displayed, with a bright, button-style design that draws attention. This ensures that viewers know exactly where to go to access the service, making it easy for them to take action immediately.
The completed poster and publication advert successfully deliver a strong, visually engaging, and informative message about the National Public Toilet Map.
The poster is designed to stand out in public spaces, using a bold headline, striking imagery, and high-contrast colours to grab attention. The map of Australia filled with real-life images of people with disabilities creates a powerful visual identity that reinforces the theme of nationwide accessibility.
The publication advert is optimised for print media, featuring a clean layout with concise messaging that effectively informs readers while maintaining an engaging and professional aesthetic. It ensures that even in a crowded publication, the key message remains clear and compelling.
Both materials successfully promote the National Public Toilet Map, driving awareness and encouraging users to visit the website or download the app. By combining thoughtful design, inclusive imagery, and clear messaging, the campaign effectively supports Meditech Staffing and the Australian Government Department of Health in their mission to improve accessibility for individuals across Australia.
