A visually engaging digital campaign created to raise public awareness about COVID-19 safety and prevention measures.
Fijian Government
Awareness Campaign
The COVID-19 awareness campaign was developed to provide the public with clear, accessible, and visually engaging information regarding the virus. Commissioned by the Fijian government, this project aimed to educate citizens on key aspects such as symptoms, transmission, and prevention. The campaign was designed specifically for social media platforms to ensure rapid dissemination and maximum reach. Given the widespread uncertainty and misinformation surrounding COVID-19, the need for an official and authoritative source of information was paramount. By leveraging strong visuals, concise messaging, and government-backed credibility, this initiative sought to empower individuals with the knowledge necessary to protect themselves and their communities.
The primary focus of this campaign was to communicate essential COVID-19 information in a manner that was both visually compelling and easy to understand. To achieve this, the design approach centred on structured layouts, bold typography, and the strategic use of icons to represent key concepts. The goal was to ensure that even individuals with limited health literacy could grasp the critical messages at a glance. Given that social media users often engage with content in fast-scrolling environments, it was crucial to create high-impact designs that captured attention immediately. Additionally, the visuals were tailored for mobile optimisation, ensuring that they remained clear and legible across various screen sizes. The campaign also aimed to strike a balance between urgency and reassurance, conveying the seriousness of COVID-19 while avoiding unnecessary panic.
One of the main challenges in designing this campaign was the potential for information overload. COVID-19 is a complex and evolving topic, and presenting too much text-heavy content risked overwhelming the audience. To counter this, the information was broken down into four distinct categories: Symptoms, What is Coronavirus, How it Spreads, and Prevention. Each category was presented in a separate infographic, allowing viewers to absorb the information in a structured and digestible manner.
Another challenge was ensuring that the content was visually engaging, as many health awareness campaigns struggle to maintain audience interest due to their reliance on plain text. To enhance engagement, the campaign incorporated a consistent colour scheme of dark backgrounds with white and red highlights, creating contrast and drawing attention to key points. Custom-designed icons were used to represent symptoms, modes of transmission, and preventive measures, making the information more intuitive and universally understandable.
Misinformation was a pressing concern, and maintaining trust and credibility was essential. To address this, the campaign prominently featured the official branding of the Fijian government, along with its website links, reinforcing the authenticity of the information. The language used was professional yet approachable, ensuring that the messages remained both authoritative and accessible to the general public.
The completed campaign successfully delivered critical COVID-19 awareness messages in a clear and compelling format. Each infographic maintained a cohesive visual theme, ensuring brand consistency and easy recognition. The use of icons proved highly effective in simplifying complex information, making it easier for audiences to quickly understand symptoms, risks, and protective measures. By focusing on concise messaging, the campaign avoided unnecessary jargon and ensured that key points stood out.
Designed for social media, the graphics were optimised for high engagement, making them easy to share across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The campaign contributed significantly to public awareness efforts, helping individuals make informed decisions regarding their health and safety. By combining effective visual storytelling with factual, government-backed information, the initiative played an important role in promoting preventive measures and reducing the spread of misinformation.
